image Telluride Film Festival 2017 – Trying to unlock the mystery

The eternal fight between Venise, Telluride and Toronto cinema festivals is always very entertaining. Which festival is going to get the worldwide premiere, which festival will bring the next Oscars winners? The game is even better than Game of Thrones, well for me at least!

By the way, in case you are wondering, Telluride film festival is in Colorado, USA.

By watching the Toronto & Venise selections, you can already guess which films are “maybe” going to be selected at Telluride. You might not be aware, but the Telluride Film Festival, which brought, as a world premiere, the phenomenon Moonlight, never gives his line up before the beginning of the festival. Amazing! You are planning your trip, audience, pro, press without any idea of which film or film crew will attend! Great idea!

Analysing the Toronto selection, you might have noticed that The Battle of Sexes is not a world premiere at Toronto! That’s one for Telluride! Same thing for the Darkest Hour by Joe Wright.

The new film of Alex Garland Annihilation has been given a release date for February 2018, can we expect a worldwide premiere there, same thing for The Isle of dogs of Wes Anderson (march 2018 release)? La La Land had a big effect on me, I’m still dreaming!

Of course, lots of films from Venise will screen at Telluride like The shape of Water (Canadian Premiere for the TIFF) but this year is going to tough as Telluride is really running in the beginning of Venise.

Strong ideas for the Line Up if Telluride 2017:

  • Battle of the sexes – Valerie Faris & Jonathan Dayton – STRONG CERTAINTY
  • Darkest Hour – Joe Wright – STRONG CERTAINTY
  • First they killed my father – Angelina Jolie – STRONG CERTAINTY
  • Film stars don’t die in Liverpool – Paul McGuigan – STRONG CERTAINTY
  • The shape of water – Guillermo Del Toro – STRONG CERTAINTY
  • A fantastic woman – Sebastian Lelio
  • MarshallReginald Hudlin
  • Wonderstruck – Todd Haynes
  • The killing of a sacreed deer – Yorgos Lathimos
  • The florida Project – Sean Baker
  • Call me by your name – Luca Guadagnino
  • Downsizing – Alexander Payne
  • La villa – Robert Guédiguian
  • Hannah – Andrea pallaoro
  • Human flow -Ai Weiwei
  • The rider – Chloe Zaho

Maybe in the line-up:

  • Blade Runner 2049 – Denis Villeneuve (as Arrival premiered as well at Telluride)
  • Goodbye Christopher Robin – Simon Curtis
  • Kingsman: the golden circle – Matthew Vaughn

Not certain, that would be amazing, sometimes we dream:

  • Annihilation – Alex Garland
  • The isle of dogs – Wes Anderson

You now, just have to wait until the first of September to know in the same time as the audience and Press.

The Telluride Film Festival runs from the 1st to the 4th of September.
